Membership Requirements
Karen is a family club with over 3500 members, of whom 1100 are golf members. Children of members under 18 years join free of charge, whereas other members of the family 18 years and over must pay an entrance fee and annual subscription fees. The membership of the Club reflects well the mix of nationalities in Kenya .
A Summary of the Club`s Entrance Policy
Any member of more than two years standing may propose or second up to two new members in a calendar year. It is the policy of the Balloting Committee, that where a prospective member is married then his or her spouse should also join the Club. The green proposal form on which members initially propose and second, is not an application form. It is simply a method of giving notice to the Balloting Committee of the intention to put forward a new member for consideration.
The Balloting Committee meets each month, and if it accepts such a proposal, an application form is then sent to the proposer for completion by the applicant(s).
Once the application form has been returned to the Club together with the appropriate entrance fees (Kshs. 140,000/= per person),and the refundable deposit of Kshs 20,000/= per family. At this stage a balloting form appears on the Club notice board, giving notice to Club members of the application and allowing any full member the right to support an application or to oppose it, by writing to the Chairman of the Balloting Committee. Until an applicant is elected, and thereafter for a period of one year, the candidate remains the responsibility of the proposer, who should ensure that his nominee is well versed in Club rules and procedures.
Please note: The election process takes a minimum of six weeks to complete. Candidates are required to meet members of the Balloting Committee on any Thursday night in the upstairs lounge with their proposer, who should introduce them in person. Subject to obtaining at least ten signatures out of a possible twelve, the application will be processed and both the applicant and the proposer will be informed of election in due course.
The dress for meeting the members of the Balloting Committee on Thursday evenings is formal, as if for an interview.
Note.:An application for entry into the Golf Section may be made coincident with the application to the Club. A separate entry fee of Kshs. 110,000/= per person is applicable. Current annual subscriptions are Kshs. 22,980/= per person Kshs. 51,440/= with golf (men), Kshs. 39,955/= with golf (ladies). Members of the Fitness Centre are either charged an additional subscription of Kshs. 34,500/= per person per year, or a daily fee of Kshs.450/= may be paid.
Please note: As the Club exists to promote social and sporting interests of its members; we request that the proposer and the seconder should not both be business colleagues of the applicant(s)

CHILDREN - Under 18 y.o. covered by parents` subscription and entry fee for all but golf.
